The documentary that began filming long before Linsanity became a pop culture reference. American's favorite unlikely sports hero.

Before the glossy magazine covers and marriage proposals from “Linsane” fans, Jeremy Lin was a quiet NBA journeyman, so unknown to the public eye, the New York Knicks’ security guards didn’t recognize him well enough to let him into the arena. For months, in a grind that would wear anyone down, Jeremy struggled to hold onto a roster spot in the sport he grew up loving. Days from being cut by the third consecutive basketball team, no one could have ever predicted what was going to happen next. The unassuming Harvard alum would take us on one of the wildest rides in sports history as fans all around the world began to take notice.

What began as a film project to document the life of an overlooked NBA walk-on became our all-access pass to one of the unlikeliest stories ever to be told. We have gained exclusive footage with friends, family, teammates, pastors, and Jeremy himself, from home videos of a young Jeremy taking it to the hoop, his personal reflections as he struggled through stints in the NBA D-League, that Christmas day when he was cut by the Rockets, to when he joined the Knicks with a coach he had yet to speak to and a playbook he hadn't even seen. We traveled with him to Asia to explore his family roots and interviewed him about his hopes and aspirations in the NBA.

We have had the exclusive permission to document Jeremy's personal life for several years now, capturing never-before-seen footage of him at the highest and lowest points in his basketball career. An intimate portrayal of a rising hero fighting unbeatable odds, it is our joy to share Jeremy Lin’s story with you now.

What is this documentary about?

Jeremy Lin’s story is so improbable, Hollywood couldn’t script this for the absurdity of being too unrealistic.  Jeremy’s career is the antithesis of NBA convention. He grew up as a skinny Asian American kid in Palo Alto, CA, home to some of Silicon Valley’s most successful technology companies. The more we dug into his story, we saw how each seemingly unconventional turn became the foundation for the next opportunity - each success and challenge became a building block for bigger and better things, weaving together an impossible story that could only have ever happened that exact way.

Jeremy is a private, simple, and humble person.  We requested to film him repeatedly, but he felt there wasn't much of a story to tell.  At the time, it seemed laughable to him that his story would  be something people would want to hear.  Fortunately after much persistence, he graciously agreed to the cameras.  Before Linsanity, we were documenting a struggling basketball player and the wild turn of events he was leading. After Linsanity hit, we capture a determined athlete whom fans want to know “What makes this man tick?"

What is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a meaningful platform for creative projects like ours to secure the funding needed to be able to properly finish our film.  It allows you, the fans, to be a part of our project at an early stage by pledging money towards the cause.  In return, we have gifts for you based on your pledge donation.  You will only be charged your pledge amount if we reach our entire funding goal in time. Once the funding drive is over and we finalize the film, we will mail out the ‘thank you’ gifts.

Who are we?

The team is made up of four individuals:
• Evan Jackson Leong, Director
 • Christopher Chen, Producer
 • Brian Yang, Producer
 • Allen Lu, Producer

We represent talent with documentary directing and producing experience.  We have current working relationships with the NBA and have worked with NBA Entertainment on past projects.  We are familiar with domestic and international film distribution and marketing. And, perhaps most importantly, we are big basketball fans. With your help, we can deliver a beautiful film that will surprise and delight audiences all over.

What do these funds go towards?

This is an independent film that has not been financially backed by any major Hollywood movie studio. The small amount of money we raised at the start of this project has long been spent on basic expenses such as travel for filming. Now we are faced with increasing expenses to finish the film including sound editing, graphics, color-correction, and general licensing for such things as footage, music, photos, etc.

How can I get more involved?

We know many people are interested in being part of our word-of-mouth team and help promote the film.  We will definitely enlist your help when we’re ready!  In the interim, please send an email to promote@linsanitythemovie.com with your interest.

We also know that some individuals may be interested in donating more than $10,000.  We are excited to have such great support and would love to discuss what that engagement may look like.  Jeremy has offered to personally help us with the thank-you gifts that come with such a generous donation. If you are interested in this opportunity, please email support@linsanitythemovie.com.
